It's not ME, it's YOU

Add a subheading (4) (1).jpg

Harsh.

But when it comes to most copy, it’s true.

Great marketing messages feature:

❎ Less “me”
✅ More about your customer

Focus on using more second-person pronouns
👉 you, your, yours

and fewer first-person pronouns
👉 I, me, mine, we, us, our, ours

Why?

It’s all about POV 👀

Think about when you’re browsing that Autumn knitwear or eyeing up your next travel destination. You want to know how it’ll benefit YOU, right? You want to picture wearing it or imagine yourself there.

Your audience is no different. They want to visualise what your product, service or experience has to offer. And it’s your job to help them do that.

By using more second-person pronouns you’ll directly engage your audience, give your copy a personalised edge and show prospective customers why they should choose you.

Simple but oh so effective.

Give it a go next time you’re writing. An easy way to remember? 👉 It’s not “ME” it’s “YOU”

Not sure if you’ve got it right? Send it my way and I’ll be happy to help 💫
